Meet your Artist: How it came to be

If you know me personally, it seems that all of this came out of the blue (it did) and you must wonder "How did she end up being in the beauty industry?!".

Throughout high school was in the robotics club, we built robots to compete with other schools through state championships and even world championships! So the beauty industry and having my own business was not at all in my life plan and it wasn't even thought of, it was a huge surprise! I got my first lash certification in 2018 when I was still a senior in High School. After a year of lashing during high school, I quit at 18 years old to work at my dream part-time job: Vans! Although it was nice and cool, there were more benefits to being my boss such as: making my work schedule, learning any services, meeting other people, boosting my creativity, and lastly, it felt nice to make others feel happy and beautiful! So I started my first and only lash room from scratch in my own house in an unused guest room.

I am now a Junior at SDSU mmajoring in Electrical Engineering and minoring in Computer Science and am currently more than halfway through my degree! While being school, slowly I've been broadening my horizons in the beauty industry. To further my education I took 3 more lash courses that expand my knowledge of lashing to mentor and learned new services. There was much more than just applying lashes, there was a whole theory on mapping, chemistry to the glue, unlimited styles and mapping, how to apply for lash extensions safely, etc! Not only that but there are other things you learn in the background such as patience, leadership, work-life balance, accounting, goal setting, and much more that helped me succeed. I want to emphasize that mental health is the most important thing for you to function, strive for a better mentality and aim for a better you for yourself. It's okay to take a break and refresh especially when it seems everyone is so busy with their life, school, and work.

I was always interested in e-commerce as I had a very artsy background since I was a kid. My family really thought I was going to pursue architect or animations, I used to sell drawings or origami to my classmates in elementary school! I have always watched artists pack videos, show off their art at conventions, and them doing commissions/speedpaints. I always thought it would be super fun if I did it too! However, I wasn't artsy enough to pursue my creations and turn it into a career. But having my own business does help fulfill that desire as I design, create, package, and sell just like I always wanted to! I started my product line in September 2020 and rebranded it in April 2022 and it's been a super fun journey creating and improving. Its also amazing how we are often called "Lash Artist" or "Brow Artist" and in the end I did end up being an "artist"!

I obtained my license in April 2022 after all these years! I wasn't even sure I wanted to be licensed until my 3rd year or lashing. It was a good lesson for me that I shouldn't say "I will not" or "I can't", and you'll never know what can happen next. Anybody can start a new career anytime and I wonder what I will be doing in 5 years, I can't wait to pursue my STEM career and see what the future awaits.

Love,
Kaye-Angeli
